What Mawadda is for

Mawadda exists for one purpose: helping Muslims find a spouse. Every member confirms they’re seeking marriage, not casual dating, when they join, and we ask you to bring that same intent to how you use the app — your profile, your messages, and how you treat the people you match with.

Be honest

You agree not to:

  • Use a photo that isn’t really you, or misrepresent your age, marital status, or intentions
  • Create more than one account, or return under a new account after being suspended or banned
  • Impersonate someone else, including another member, a public figure, or Mawadda staff

Treat other members with respect

These expectations apply everywhere on Mawadda — in your messages and on voice or video calls alike. You agree not to:

  • Harass, threaten, or send explicit or hateful content to another member
  • Send unsolicited sexual content or make unwanted sexual advances
  • Use hate speech or hateful symbols directed at a person’s race, ethnicity, religion, sect, nationality, gender, or disability
  • Solicit money, gifts, or financial or account information from another member
  • Share another member’s photos, messages, or personal information without their consent

Keep contact information off Mawadda until you’re ready

Sharing a phone number, email, or another way to reach you off-platform is your choice once you know someone — but our message screening flags it either way, so both people can see it happened. New and unverified accounts can’t send an off-platform contact detail at all; this is one of the more common ways a spam or scam account tries to move a conversation somewhere we can no longer see it.

Give the other person a chance to reply

A conversation should go both ways. If you’ve sent several messages in a row with no reply, Mawadda holds your next message until the other person responds — this isn’t a punishment, it’s meant to keep either side from carrying a conversation alone.

Photos

Every profile photo is reviewed before anyone else can see it. A photo is rejected if it shows nudity, sexual activity, suggestive content, violence, gore, a hateful symbol, drug use, a weapon, or a person who appears to be a minor. Your first photo should clearly show your own face.

No exploitation or harm

You agree not to:

  • Threaten violence against anyone, including yourself
  • Post or send content depicting or promoting self-harm — if you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out to a local crisis line
  • Use Mawadda to advertise, recruit for, or promote any illegal activity

Family and wali access

If you invite a wali, guardian, or trusted family member to help with your search, you choose exactly what they can see — suggested profiles, your conversations, or nothing beyond an invitation to weigh in — and you can revoke that access at any time. Every action a delegate takes is logged and visible to you. A delegate must only use that access to help the member who invited them; using it for any other purpose is grounds for that delegate’s own account being restricted.

Reporting and blocking

Report and block are available from any profile or conversation, free for every member, always. Blocking is silent — the person you block is never told, and they simply stop appearing to you and you to them. A report reaches our moderation team; we don’t disclose who filed it to the person being reported.

How we enforce this

Violations are handled based on severity: a first, minor issue may get a warning, content that violates a rule may be removed, and repeated or serious violations can lead to a temporary suspension or a permanent ban. A permanent ban is only ever decided by a senior member of our moderation team, never by a single first-line reviewer.

If your account is suspended or banned and you believe it was a mistake, you can request a review from within the app.
